Bowling for Books

Bowling for Books is a fund-raiser for the Gunter Library organized by graduate students and librarians of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community participate in an afternoon of bowling and fun, while raising money for purchase of scientific books. Bowling for Books 1998 raised $1,144. With that money the library bought sixteen scientific works. Books were selected in subject areas of fisheries, marine chemistry, marine geology, marine mammals, marine conservation, botany and ecology.

Bowling for Books 2000 almost doubled the figure of 1998, raising $2,062. There were 51 partipants, 22 of which were children (local cub scouts and girl scouts). New books are presently being selected for purchase. Bowling for Books has become the major source of new book revenue for the Gunter Library. It makes a visible and lasting contribution to the education, research and service mission of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
