We would like to invite you to attend a fun-filled, research-oriented, and affordable symposium being held at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, MS. This symposium provides a forum for students to present their research in a formal but non-threatening environment and to network with students and faculty from across the region. All university students and faculty in aquatic, marine and biological sciences are invited to attend and all graduate students are encouraged to present. Awards will be given for best oral and poster presentations and oral presenters will receive feedback. We have an exciting program lined up. New this year is a career fair, where various agencies and businesses will be present to discuss hiring options with students. Dr. George Benz, director emeritus of the Tennessee Aquarium Research Institute and associate professor at Middle Tennessee State University, will give our keynote address.
Following a Friday night welcome/registration session and cookout, presentations will be given on Saturday. Continental breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday are included in dormitory fees and are available to those not staying in the dorms for a small fee. A poster session and career fair will be held on Saturday afternoon. A lunch on Saturday will also be available. A Saturday evening banquet, featuring a wine tour of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art with special guest speaker Mary Picard-Anderson, will showcase life and culture on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Transportation to and from the banquet will be available.
Presentations and posters are limited to students only, but everyone is invited to attend. If you need airport transportation or hotel information, please contact Allison Kennedy (allison.kennedy@usm.edu) or Joshua Cook (josh.cook@usm.edu).
