Free Tag-and-Release Brochure
July 2004
OCEAN SPRINGS -- The University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Laboratory is offering a free brochure to anglers interested in results of the lab's tag-and-release programs.
The GCRL Center for Fisheries Research and Development, in conjunction with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Sport Fish Program, conducts tag-and-release programs to monitor the travel and growth of cobia, spotted sea trout and tripletail. The programs rely almost entirely on anglers who volunteer to use the free GCRL materials to tag fish, record catch data and fish measurements, and send the information to project personnel. The sport fishing community also reports information on tagged fish that are recaptured.
The brochure provides an overview of the programs, information on how to become involved and results of the tagging efforts. For a free copy of the four-color report on the 2001-2003 Mississippi marine sport fish tag and release programs, call (228) 872-4202 or e-mail read.hendon@usm.edu. The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory is part of the Southern Miss College of Science and Technology.
