Gonadal Histology of Fishes

Terminology to describe reproductive classification in fishes is currently inconsistent and confusing. To address this problem, a committee of international scientists working with fish reproductive biology proposes new terminology based on phases of the reproductive cycle in fishes. This terminology was developed as a result of the 2006 Workshop on Gondal Histology of Fishes. The Committee is currently working on a peer-reviewed publication describing and illustrating this terminology. An abstract of poster presentations describing this terminology, given at the Joint Meetings of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists in St. Louis, Missouri in July 2007 and the American Fisheries Society in San Francisco, California in September 2007, is currently available. Additionally, a table outlining descriptions of each phase in male and female fishes is currently available for download and use.
