R/V Hermes

GCRL’S R/V Hermes is a 38-foot steel trawler that has long formed an important part of our education program. She is U.S. Coast Guard approved to carry a crew of two and a maximum of 20 passengers. Since her christening in 1955, she has faithfully provided steady transport on hundreds of field excursions for students and in-house projects on the Mississippi Sound. A normal day on the R/V Hermes would include trawling for fish, shrimp, and other bottom dwelling marine life for observation/collection in the Mississippi Sound; dolphin watching; and a trip to one of the barrier islands when weather permits.
The R/V Hermes has a draft of 4.5 feet and cruises at 8 knots. The R/V Hermes is equipped with a trawl winch, 115-VAC generator, radar, DGPS plotter, depth sounder, and VHF radiotelephone.

The base fee is $600 per eight-hour day and $50 per hour after eight hours (fuel included). For more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period, there will be an additional $200 charge for an extra captain and deckhand.
