Golden Eagles Intertribal Society

The Golden Eagles Intertribal Society (GEIS), an American Indian student organization at the University of Southern Mississippi is committed to the recruitment and retention of Native American students on campus as well as increasing First Nations/Indigenous Peoples cultural awareness on campus and in the community. Since its inception in the Spring 2002, GEIS has been successful in building coalitions between American Indian faculty, students, staff and administrators at both the local and state level. Originally established in response to a student demand, GEIS is the result of a creative vision for completion of higher education for Native Americans. Together with strong participation from the community, organization members have worked to strengthen ties between tribes in southern Mississippi and its surrounding states.
