Research Interests

I am a cultural geographer with interests in culture, landscape, ecology and the intersections/integrations of these. Relatedly, I have a growing interest in the larger social, political, and economic forces that affect culture, landscape, and ecology in specific local places. Regionally, I focus on Latin America and the U.S. South.

My research interests developed through my graduate studies at both LSU and the University of Texas, with significant influence from Bill Davidson, Miles Richardson, Terry Jordan, and Bill Doolittle. These are broadly based in cultural and environmental geography with regional foci on Latin America and the U.S. South. My research is conducted primarily through field-based empirical and ethnographic observations. I use the landscape as an analytical arena of inquiry to gain insights into the relationships between humans and the biophysical environment.
