Dr. Andy Reese is a biogeographer whose primary research interest is the impact of climatic change on the vegetation of the High-Central Andes region of South America. His specialty involves the use of fossil pollen found in high-alpine ice caps and lakes to reconstruct paleovegetation. Dr. Reese’s current research has been focused on the three Andean ice caps of Quelccaya (18,750 ft.) in southern Peru, Mt. Sajama (21,400 ft.) in western Bolivia, and Mt. Parinacota (20,800 ft.) in northeastern Chile. This research is currently being use to answer a wide variety of paleoecological questions centered on the timing, magnitude, and nature of climatic events from the late Pleistocene to the present. Dr. Reese is also actively involved in the new and exciting science of paleotempestology, or the reconstruction of pre-historic hurricane landfalls. He has worked all along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts of North America and has plans to extend this research into the Caribbean and Central America. When not immersed in academia, Dr. Reese can usually be found hunting or fishing.
