The Department of Geography was founded in 1912 and is the only Department to offer degrees in Geography in the state of Mississippi. We offer a variety of concentrations towards both the Bacculaurate and Master's degrees; and often our programs are tailored to the diverse needs of our students. |
We are located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in the heart of the Pine Belt and are about 70 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Our location provides students an ideal setting for research, field work, and academic study. Hattiesburg is listed as one of the top historically developed cities in Mississippi, and USM is ranked as a top 150 Carnegie Foundation and Class 1 Southern Regional Educational Board institution.
