Master's Program
The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education offers a master's degree with emphasis in Gifted Child Education. All master's degree program plans include courses required for certification in gifted education.
Upon admission into the master's program, each student will be assigned a faculty adviser. The adviser will design a program plan within the selected area(s) of specialization. The program plan will be signed by both the faculty adviser and the student.
Each student is required to take and successfully complete the comprehensive written examination for completion of the degree program. Before registering for the last term of enrollment, the student must consult with the adviser regarding administration of the comprehensive examination. The questions for the examination will be drawn from the student's area(s) of emphasis and from the required master's-level courses. Dates for the examination are determined by the College and Departmental policies, and no exceptions are made. The examination may be repeated only once. A thesis option is available in place of the examination. This process is recommended for students with aspirations for doctoral study.
