Lug-A-Mugs will be available at various campus stores for an affordable price. The first 300 will be sold for just $.99. The remainder of stock will be sold for $6.99. **The first fill will be free with the purchase of a Lug-A-Mug.**

The goal of the Lug-A-Mug program here at Southern Miss is to encourage people to go beyond recycling and step into the world of waste reduction.

• Did you know that Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour! Most of them are thrown away!
• Paper cups not only waste trees; simply making them emits a number of harmful chemicals into the environments we live in. Disposable cups have only one place to go...the landfill. While plastic can sometimes be recycled, paper coffee cups are commonly wax-coated reducing their biodegradability and making recycling difficult.
• Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every year - these are NOT recyclable.

By reducing the number of these paper and Styrofoam cups, as well as plastic bottles used on the Southern Miss campuses, we can reduce both the manufacturing (pre-consumer) and disposal (post-consumer) waste.

If faculty, staff, and students at Southern Miss used a refillable mug once a day we would save thousands of disposable cups a day and millions per year! Every little bit makes a big difference.
