First Annual Sustainability Essay Contest

Essay Criteria

Deadline – April 17, 2014

 

The Office of Sustainability wants to hear your stories and ideas about ways to move forward with issues of sustainability and conservation in our modern-day society.  What are the stories and ideas that will empower us to create a greater sustainable culture?  Not only do we need technology and scientific advances, but we also need stories that show us new ways to imagine and express our values.  Send us your stories and tell us what you believe a truly sustainable and equitable culture will look and feel like.

Guidelines:

WHO:  All enrolled students at The University of Southern Mississippi

WHY:  Two winning entries will receive a $200 scholarship that will be applied

directly to your student account.

HOW:  A small committee of sustainability staff, faculty, and students will choose

the top essays.

WHEN:  Deadline for submissions is April 17, 2014.

Responses must be limited to:

800 words for prose

20 lines for poetry

**No visual images**

How to Submit:

1.     One entry per person

2.     Include your name, e-mail address, and phone number on the first page of your submission

3.     Attach as a word document.

4.     Put your last name and “Sustainability Essay Contest” in the subject line.

5.     Submit via email to haley.mcminn@usm.edu
