Funding Opportunities

The CSGS is proud to announce that it will be awarding the first annual Baird Fellowship ($1500) to an outstanding graduate student at the Master’s or Doctoral level who is working on an aspect of Southern history in Southern Miss’s graduate history program. Awarded annually, the Baird Fellow may use the $1,500 for reimbursement of expenses related to conference or research travel, as well as research expenses such as photocopying, books (including textbooks) and technology purchases (computer hardware and software).  Applications for the Baird Fellowship should be sent to Dr. Deanne Nuwer at Deanne.Nuwer@usm.edu and Dr. Susannah Ural at Susannah.Ural@usm.edu in .pdf format no later than June 1 of each year and should include an application letter that explains the central arguments of the applicant’s thesis or dissertation, how it contributes to the field of Southern history, and how the student plans to use the Baird Fellowship funds. Baird Fellows are announced the first week of August each year.
