Lynn Estes, Ph.D.

Dr. Lynn Estes, Associate Vice President for Administration and Finance, has served over thirty years at the University of Southern Mississippi having held positions on both the Gulf Coast and Hattiesburg campuses.  A Gulf Coast native, Estes earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History and graduated with her Ph. D. in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Higher Education at the University of Southern Mississippi in May of 1995.

Estes began her career as an admissions counselor in High School and Junior College Relations on the Hattiesburg campus.  Upon returning to the Gulf Coast she began working as Financial Aid/VA/Admissions Counselor and then served as Director of Student Services and Non-Academic Support.  After focusing on higher education financial operations during her doctoral course work, Estes was promoted to Assistant Vice President for Administrative and Financial Services.  From 2005 to 2006 she served as Interim University Budget Director on the Hattiesburg campus and returned to the Gulf Coast in support of the post Katrina recovery process. 

Her current responsibilities include supervising Gulf Coast budget planning, development and administration; Campus Management including Security and Shipping and Receiving; Financial Operations including the Business Office; Human Resources; and Physical Plant operations including construction and repairs, buildings and grounds maintenance, and campus planning.  One of her highest priorities is restoring and enhancing the beauty of the Gulf Park campus to foster a strong sense of community once all students, faculty, and staff return to Long Beach. 

A graduate of Leadership Gulf Coast, she has received recognition by The Gold Leaf, and was honored as the University of Southern Mississippi Administrator of the Year.  She was also selected by the Jaycee Women as the United States’ Outstanding Sparkette (member) and a Top Ten Speaker in the nation.  She has been included in Two Thousand Notable American Women, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America, and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.
