Welcome

Welcome Letter from the Associate Dean Bob Pauly

Dr. Robert J. PaulyOn behalf of the faculty, staff and administration, welcome to the website for the Gulf Coast programs of the College of Arts and Letters (A&L) at The University of Southern Mississippi.  It is our pleasure to serve the university and broader Gulf Coast region through the myriad interconnected research, teaching and communal outreach efforts to which we are dedicated.

We are committed to serving our undergraduate and graduate students in the broad range of programs and majors offered on the Gulf Coast, including English, English Licensure, Entertainment Industry (Film), History, History Licensure, Interdisciplinary Studies, International Development, Paralegal Studies and Political Science.  We encourage inter- and multi-disciplinary pedagogic approaches, manifested in both interactive exchanges between academics and policy practitioners, and hands-on experiential student learning opportunities.

The A&L education process begins and ends with our outstanding regionally, nationally and internationally acclaimed faculty, whose prolific publication records and innovative teaching approaches provide a strong foundation for diverse student learning experiences and service to the academic and policy communities, as well the general public.  We emphasize collaborative faculty and student research ventures between departments and programs within our unit, as well as across colleges on the Coast and on the Hattiesburg campus.

Sharing such collaborative research and pedagogic ventures, in turn, is central to our commitment to expanding the role of A&L across the Gulf Coast, in collaboration with local leaders in the arts, business, education, media, the military and politics.  Most significantly, we are dedicated to the continued development and maintenance of open channels of communication to help us serve the community as effectively as possible.

With the above research, teaching and community outreach endeavors in mind, we encourage anyone with an interest in any of our programs to touch base by e-mail or telephone or just drop by the office or campus anytime.  We look forward to working with you.

All the Best!

Dr. Bob Pauly
