Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2013
The Gulf Park Campus turns PINK each October to raise awareness and join the American Cancer Society’s yearly efforts in “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.”
Although it was a rainy October day the Pink Golden Eagles had 29 registered walkers and raised $2,696 to place 12th in fundraising teams.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event to fight breast cancer. It is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities to honor breast cancer survivors, raise awareness and fund the fight to end the disease. It’s a way to raise money to help the ACS continue to do the most for people facing breast cancer, providing free information and services when and where they need it. It’s a journey to end breast cancer that starts with a single step.
Heart Walk 2013
The Southern Miss Heart Walk team raised $4,454 and had 45 walkers for the 2013 event held in September. The team also won first place for their T-shirt design and two team members, Shanna Bordelon and Dr. Frances Lucas, placed among the top fundraising walkers.
The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's premiere event for raising funds to save lives from this country's No. 1 and No. 3 killers - heart disease and stroke.
Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that's fun and rewarding for the entire family. This year, more than 1 million walkers participated in nearly 350 events nationwide.
