Admissions Requirements

January 2012 In-person session

Dear Prospective Student,

To apply to the Masters of Political Science Emphasis Program you must have an undergraduate degree in a social science field though other undergraduate degrees will be considered.

Our program is fully online which means that students are not required to come to campus but all students are welcome on campus anytime and are encouraged to attend graduation.

Classes are offered once a week for a set two-hour time period, Monday - Thursday, 5-7PM or 7-9PM, CST.

The program is 30 semester hours, Master of Science non thesis, with 6 hours of core classes, 15 hours of IDV core classes and 9 hours of an major emphasis area. Each course is 3 hours each. Most students take on average 2 classes per semester. After completion of the classes, students will sit for an on-campus comprehensive exam. The program is very doable for a working professional and most of our students meet that description. The university residency requirement can be met by taking two classes (6 hours) for 4 consecutive semesters including summer.

The University of Southern Mississippi is a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accredited institution and celebrated its 100 anniversary recently.
