The Coast Big Band

In the tradition of great big bands, the 20-piece big band orchestra consists of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, guitar, bass, piano, drums with vocalist David Delk and Monica Boudreaux.

The Coast Big Band was formed in 2006. Many of its members have played in other big bands like The Star Dusters, Yesterday’s Big Band and Today’s Big Band.

The band performs compositions that span a century of music, including classics made famous by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Harry James and Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey.

Music extends from the beginning of the Swing Era in the 1930s, through many rank Sinatra favorites to more current music recorded by Michael Bublé and Harry Connick Jr. Their playlist includes classics such as Moon River, Summertime, Fever and more current songs like Brick House. The band is adding ’70s and ’80s music to their repertoire.

Members of the band, who are people from the coast, say there is a need for a “society orchestra” for conventions, weddings and other special events. The band also has a gospel set for a church service.
