On Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25, The University of Southern Mississippi will partner with Barnes & Noble Booksellers to benefit the Katrina Research Center through a portion of proceeds from all books and other tangible items sold in the Gulfport Barnes & Noble on those days.
The
public only has to present a voucher (at right) to secure the donation to
the Katrina Research Center and the important work it continues to do in
documenting, understanding and improving response to hurricanes like Katrina.
Click on the voucher at left to download a sheet of printable vouchers in
PDF format. Cut them apart and share with friends. Anyone who brings one
to the Barnes & Noble at Crossroads Mall on Friday or Saturday can participate
simply by handing over the voucher when you make a purchase of non-consumable
goods in the store.
The Katrina Research Center (KRC)
at The University of Southern Mississippi serves as a collection point and
clearinghouse for knowledge about the 2005 hurricane. The KRC also serves
as an inter-disciplinary center to facilitate the gathering of historical
and current information and knowledge on the natural, physical, social, political
and economic effects of and recovery from Hurricane Katrina as well as from
other disasters.
The University of Southern Mississippi serves nearly 16,000 students on the
main campus in Hattiesburg, Miss., and at five teaching and research sites
on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Southern Miss is educating a 21st century
work force providing intellectual capital, cultural enrichment and innovation
to Mississippi and the world.
