Meet our Staff
Blair Bermond, English, B.A.
Blair has been working as a speaking and writing tutor at The Learning Commons for over two years. She has been the Assistant Editor for USM's literary journal, Coastlines, and has also been a published writer for South Mississippi Living magazine. Blair is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society, and Gamma Beta Phi, an academic and service-based honor society.
Norma Forrest, Spanish, B.A.
Norma is a native Spanish speaker. She is very excited to start tutoring in Spanish in the summer semester. Norma has tutoring experience with home-school students, as well as high school students. She was also the recipient of an award and admission to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
LaQuita Gresham, English Licensure, B.A.
LaQuita Gresham is a senior here at USM. She is an Honors College student, a member of the Southern Connections Leadership Team, and the SGA Representative for the College of Arts and Letters. She specializes in English, education, oral presentations, and public speaking. She also has a minor in Spanish and is a member of the English Honor Society. She enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her husband..
Sarah Lott, English Licensure, B.A
John-Michael Pahlavan, Communication Studies, B.A.
An active member of the Student Government Association and Legacy Association, John-Michael has been a peer-to-peer tutor with the Learning Commons for five semesters, specializing in public speaking and oral presentations. He is in charge of web & media services for the Learning Commons, and also writes bio’s in third person.
Colleen Smith, Masters of Library Informational Science, M.L.I.S.
Originally from Ocean Springs, Colleen has a Bachelors of Art in English. She hopes to become an English professor or work in Literary Archives, digitalizing Literary works for preservation. She enjoys writing, reading, and spending time with her friends, and her dog, Sookie. Very active on campus, Colleen is the Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society and a member of Golden Key International Honour Society.
I am the treasurer of the science and math club. I am currently a senior. I plan to apply to graduate school after I graduate. I hope to get a job in research and be involved in various organizations.
Jessica Holland, General Biology, B.S., and Chemistry
Jessica is a senior, considering graduate school after her graduation in the spring of next year. Very active on campus, Jessica is the secretary of Sigma Mu (Math & Science club). She is the mother of a 3 year old son, Aidan, whose favorite color is Blue. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with Aidan and going to the zoo.
Erika Hosler, Mathematics, B.S
A senior at USM, Erika Hosler is majoring in mathematics. Her specialties include: College Algebra, Elementary Math, Trigonometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, and Modern Algebra. She has been a tutor in the Math Lab for 1 semester. Aside from math she loves arts and crafts.
Jeremy Hughes, Pure Mathematics
I am a mathematics major in my senior year at USM and have been a tutor for 7 years now. I have worked with all ages of students in a lab setting, as well as one-on-one and group tutoring. I love to teach and plan to do so at the University level. I am also the President of Sigma Mu (Math & Science Club). My specialties include: Combinatorics, Math Computing, Algebra, Trigonometry, all Calculus courses, Linear Algebra, Physics I, and Technical Writing.
Virginia Hutchinson, Mathematics
Virginia is a senior Math major who has been working in the Math Lab for two semesters. On campus, she is the Vice President of Sigma Mu (Math & Science Club). Off campus, she enjoys a good puzzle, especially if it is math related, like Sudoku! She has lived on the coast for two years and loves all the activities that the coast offers, be it floundering or a crawfish boil.
