About Camp Live Oak

Southern Miss Gulf Park campus is home to the Live Oak Writing Project, which is part of the National Writing Project’s initiative to help educators improve writing and learning for all students.

Teachers may attend a summer workshop (the Invitational Summer Institute held each June) to take part in an intensive writing course. At the workshop’s completion, educators become teacher consultants who continue to work with the project, paying their knowledge and skills forward to more and more educators.

The teachers who completed the summer institute program lead our yearly youth writing camp. Students in grades 5-7 may participate in Camp Live Oak, a summer writing workshop that takes place on the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus.
