Polymer Science Students Reach Out
Connection with community is important at Southern Miss. Our researchers are involved in many innovative activities and one of them is reaching out to area youth. Nearly 100 students from Hattiesburg High and Forrest County Agricultural High School recently visited the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials to get a firsthand look at how polymers are used in the world around them, from golf balls to eyeglasses.
The campus visit and other activities are part of a National Science Foundation GK-12 grant that pairs high school students and teachers with university graduate students in an effort to share how science can be interesting, fun and relevant.
