University Communications provides training and assistance with the development of web pages for Southern Miss Gulf Coast.

The university uses a content management system, Drupal, to create and maintain Web sites for colleges, schools, departments, offices and other campus units.

The Drupal CMS is a free resource and requires no additional software. Web contributors use their browsers - Firefox, Chrome or Safari is recommended over Internet Explorer - to log into the system, create and edit content.

The Drupal template and feature set are standardized in order to provide a consistent Web solution that can be deployed most efficiently to campus. This is particularly important as the university transitions away from the current, or legacy, Web server to a more stable, redundant and secure hosting environment.

Periodic training sessions will be offered. Contact the director of web services on the Gulf Coast to check availability.

Sites that are transitioning from the legacy server may also consider one of the following solutions:

• An account on a virtual server with space for custom designs or functionality. Bear in mind that this will incur a monthly hosting fee where the Drupal server is provided without charge to university units.
• A community in CampusHUB, the university's intranet application, for pages that are directed to internal audiences to communicate internal messages about meetings, minutes from meetings, policies, forms, etc. If needed a Drupal site can link to content within CampusHUB. Always consider your audience before selecting a venue for your web site.
