Family Network Partnership

 

The Family Network Partnership is the community outreach branch of the Southern Miss School of Social Work.  This center is largely grant funded, and seeks to benefit families in the Hattiesburg-area while serving as a teaching site for Social Work students.  Student and staff work to educate, inform, and bridge gaps with families and children by performing couseling and providing a host of support services

 

  

Family Counseling Center

Mission: To empower, strengthen, and promote the wellbeing of children and their biological or foster families through family-centered practice strategies that strengthen family functioning, minimize emotional disturbances, and prevent placement disruptions.

Components of Family Centered Practice Model

  • The family unit is the focus of clinical attention
  • Strengthening the capacity of families to function effectively is emphasized
  • Clinical training for USM School of Social Work students

The Family Counseling Center's target population is chilren, ages 3-18, and families in Mississippi foster care system who are Medicaid eligible.

FNP Family & Youth Services

The Family Network Partnership works with youth and families on the east side of Hattiesburg. Youth are provided the oppurtunity to be involved in a variety of activities each week. Youth enterprise programs such as Bike Shop and the Community Garden provide vocational education and hands-on skills development.

  • Field trips and special events are are provided as incentives and educational activities supplement the daily recreational activities
  • Peer groups meet to address relevent topics such as violence, peer pressure, respect, gangs, living skills, self-esteem and drugs
  • Youth Action Council meets regularily to involve youth in assessing community needs, planning civic engagement projects, and providing feedback regarding FNP programming

Services provided to the families include:

  • Positive youth development activities such as recreation, tutoring, art projects and social skills development
  • Securing adequate resources such as food, housing and clothing
  • Confronting issues that concern the people in the community

 

Directions to the Family Network Partnership


From USM, go east on Hardy Street. Pass the Hattiesburg Public Library on left. Turn right on West Pine Street. Turn left on 6 th Ave. Cross railroad tracks and 6 th will turn into Hall Ave. Stay on Hall until you cross the rail road tracks again. In the curve turn left on Alcorn Avenue. Pass Forrest County Juvenile Center. Turn left at ‘road closed’ sign. Family Network Partnership office is on the right across from Forrest County Work Release Center.
