Brittany Tyrone
Hello! My name is Brittany Tyrone. I am a junior speech pathology major from Hattiesburg, MS. I am minoring in deaf education and serve as a student worker at the DuBard School for Language Disorders. I love my major and am really interested in the medical aspect of the field. I have recently completed research on eating and swallowing for the McNair Scholars Program and plan to conduct further research in that area for my Honors College thesis. My ultimate goal for this research is to come up with improvements for current swallow therapies.
After I graduate from Southern Miss., I plan on obtaining a master’s degree in speech pathology and eventually pursuing admission into a doctoral program. I would like to work in a hospital after graduation and later open my own private practice. After several years of performing my duties as a speech pathologist in those areas, I would eventually like to become a professor at The University of Southern Mississippi. Hopefully, I will have the honor of teaching courses on dysphagia, anatomy of hearing, and anatomy of the speech mechanism, as those are my favorite areas of study.
Other activities in which I am involved include the Golden Key Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, past president of Phi Eta Sigma, President’s List, Dean’s List, photographer for The Southerner, Student Speech and Hearing Association, Council for American Instructors of the Deaf, A Show of Hands, Senior Honors College. My favorite health pastimes include yoga and karate.
