Karen Johnson is a senior from Magnolia, Miss. She is a Community Health Science major, with an emphasis in Health Policy Administration. This is her first year as a College of Health Ambassador, and she is very excited about representing her college.
She serves as a Wellness Ambassador for Southern Miss and is involved in Southern Miss’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Afro-American Student Organization (AASO), the Health Administration Student Association (HASA), Increasing Minority Access to Graduate Education (I.M.A.G.E.), and has been named to the President’s List for academic achievement. Within the community Karen currently volunteers to tutor and mentor students at the After School Academic and Arts Program, and she participates in all types of events in the Hattiesburg area.
Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a Master of Public Health degree at Southern Miss. Her ultimate goal is to work as an administrator in a health setting where there are underserved, at-risk persons.
