Sarina Murry

Hello, everyone!! My name is Sarina Murry. I am from Chicago, IL. I am currently a senior pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Food Systems. The reason I decided to pursue a degree in nutrition is because I want to be a clinical pediatric dietician or a registered dietician.

I love food. I mean who doesn’t. However, I enjoy educating the public about the importance of good health. For example, taking a pill for your high blood pressure is not going to solve the underlying issue. Learning to plan meals that are low in saturated fat and sodium can increase your overall health (i.e. lower blood pressure and weight), in which there is a possibility that you wouldn’t have to take that magic white pill anymore. Also, my long-term goals are to get my Master’s Degree in Nutrition Science and Dietetics, and to be an employee for the Lupus Foundation of America. The Lupus Foundation is an organization that employs health professionals to diagnose and treat individuals with lupus and other autoimmune diseases. Being able to educate the public with the basic knowledge in nutrition can help reduce and/or prevent chronic diseases in our community. Specifically for those who have autoimmune diseases, having a healthier lifestyle can be an alternative to medications that have crippling and life-threatening side effects.

My hobbies include basketball (GO BULLS!), yoga, trying new foods and recipes, watching movies and tv, and reading (The Intellectual devotional by David S. Kidder and N.D. Oppenheim).
