Shamari Griffin

Hello! My name is Shamari Griffin, a senior social work major from Vance, Alabama. I am a member of the BSW social work club where I am serving in my second year as treasurer, and I am also a proud student member of the National Association of Social Workers.

My other campus involvements include Phi Alpha Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, The Legacy Student Alumni Association, The President’s List, and Residence Life, where I currently work as a Desk Assistant. Aside from campus I serve as a Youth Director at Banks Chapel Community Church in Woodstock, Alabama. My summer vacations are spent working as a summer day camp counselor/assistant director in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is amazing how much of an impact individuals can have on a child’s life in three short months, and I enjoy every moment of it.

I hold a third degree black belt in Taekwondo where I practiced for 13 years and instructed junior classes for three. I hope to someday return to teaching. My ultimate joy is being around children and seeing smiles on their faces. Being given many opportunities to work with and inspire youth in my community, I have truly found my passion.

After graduation I plan to purse a master’s degree in social work and devote much of my career to working with children and families. In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing poetry, as well as shopping and traveling when funds allow.
