Virginia Smith is from Quitman, Mississippi. She is a senior nutrition and dietetics major. Along with being a part of the College of Health Ambassadors, she is the President of the Student Dietetics Association, a mentor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Systems, and a recipient of the Jane Boudreaux foundation scholarship award.
Virginia volunteers at her hometown high school in Quitman conducting nutrition education lessons for the high school classes. Her hobbies include attending church, playing the piano and guitar, singing, painting, reading, watching movies, enjoying time with her family, and enjoying time with her six dogs, five cats, two horses and calf on her home farm.
Virginia plans to become a registered dietitian and counsel people with diabetes in the future. She chose this career path because she is a Type 1 Diabetic, and she feels it is her responsibility to use her experiences to help others achieve optimum health when dealing with a disease. She also is looking forward to working with community nutrition to improve food security in Mississippi.
