Jason Dawsey has been an instructor in the USM History department since Fall 2006. He teaches courses in world history, historical methodology, and modern European history. He is currently ABD in History at the University of Chicago. His area of concentration is modern European intellectual and cultural history. His dissertation explores the life and writings of the German-Jewish intellectual, Günther Anders (1902-1992). A trenchant critic of modern technology, theorist of Holocaust consciousness, and organizer of opposition to nuclear weapons, Anders’ intellectual biography has thus far received very little scholarly attention in the United States. Dawsey’s other academic interests include the history of Western Marxism, the Third Reich and its legacy, and attempts to think historically about the re-emergence of Christian and Islamic fundamentalisms since the 1970s.
