Ms. Farrell teaches courses in World Civilization and supervises student teachers seeking licensure to teach social studies. She serves as the Mississippi State liaison for the National Council for History Education. Ms. Farrell frequently consults with textbook publishers and has authored Discovering Mississippi: A Teacher's Guide and Resource Book (1994, 1999).

Ms. Farrell continues to supervise student teachers and to teach survey-level history courses for the department. In addition, Farrell wrote the proposal that resulted in the three-year, $850,000 U.S. Department of Education grant the department received in September 2002, and she has been busy organizing the various seminars and summer institutes for teachers that this grant funds. Farrell is also busy making sure the department is prepared for the upcoming NCATE accreditation process.
