Graduate Programs

The University of Southern Mississippi offers both a masters and a doctoral degree in history. The department has excellent programs in United States, European and Latin American history with traditional strengths in Southern history (including Civil Rights) and the study of war and society.

The graduate program at the University of Southern Mississippi provides the opportunity for graduate students to work closely with nationally recognized scholars in their fields. A USM history degree provides career opportunities in academia, primary and secondary education, state and federal governments, and museums and archives.
