The School of Human Performance and Recreation at The University of Southern Mississippi is one of the largest and most diverse schools within the university. Our 900 majors at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels are active contributors to university life and are preparing to make outstanding accomplishments in their chosen disciplines. The School offers programs in:
We take pride in the fact that our classroom instruction is supplemented by considerable hands-on practice of the skills and knowledge necessary to become a highly, competent practitioner. Every one of our academic programs provides the opportunity to immerse the student in situations that he or she will encounter in the real world. Because of the hands-on experiences and the research our outstanding faculty and staff conduct, the School of Human Performance and Recreation is regionally and nationally known for its excellence in preparing students for their careers in the world of sport. Continuing our path of excellence and to remain on the cutting edge of topics related to sport, we have added several new academic programs. In order to meet the demands of administrators in interscholastic athletic administration, we have added a Master of Science in Interscholastic Athletic Administration. A Master of Science in Sport Coaching Education and a Master of Science in Recreation and and Leisure Administration have also been added to meet the demands of the region. Our concern for the busy sport manager and coach has lead to the addition of two fully online academic programs: Master of Science in Sport Management and Master of Science in Sport Coaching Education. Another exciting degree offering is in conjunction with the department ofPolymer Science. The Master of Science in Sport and High Performance Materials provides the background and skills for development of safer equipment for individuals involved in all aspects of sport. At the School of Human Performance and Recreation, we want each graduate to look back on the time spent here as being some of the best years of his or her life. Should you have occasion to visit the campus, I invite you to stop in and meet some of our friendly faculty and staff. If you have specific questions, or comments about the school or our programs, call us at (601) 266-5675 or e-mail me at lou.marciani@usm.edu. If you or someone you know is looking for an outstanding education in the exercise, sport, or leisure industry, then the School of Human Performance and Recreation is the place to be!
