The School of Human Performance and Recreation (HP & R) prepares professionals for career opportunities in meeting the complex educational, health, leisure, and sport science needs of society. Students have the option of majoring in one of three bachelor of science degree programs: Coaching and Sport Administration, Human Performance, or Recreation. Within these majors, students may concentrate study in one of the following emphasis areas: Coaching, Sport Administration, Physical Education, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Recreation Administration, and Therapeutic Recreation.

School-based instructional program leadership

Fitness program leadership, exercise specialists in community/corporate wellness settings, and cardiac rehabilitation directors.

Athletic trainers are employed at the collegiate setting, high school, outreach clinics, professional sports, and industrial rehabilitation centers.

Recreation directors and programmers in county and municipal recreation and youth-serving agencies, such as YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, scouting agencies, civilian recreation specialists in military recreation, recreation specialists in church's, commercial recreation agencies, and resorts.

Recreational therapists in hospitals, mental and physical rehabilitation centers, retirement communities, and special education centers. Recreation planners, federal and state park managers, park rangers, camp directors, and interpreters.

Athletic directors, coaches on any academic level, sports team managers, armed forces sports coaches, sports administrators in private or semiprivate enterprises, municipal sports directors, and front-office personnel and administrators with professional sports organizations, public colleges, and universities (facilities, marketing, and sports information).

Admission Requirements: Any student satisfying admission requirements through the university Office of Admissions is eligible for admission to the School of Human Performance and Recreation.

Additional Requirements: HPR majors must earn "C"s or better in all HPR and THY prefixed courses. Students pursuing teaching certification must complete additional core requirements as stipulated by the College of Education and Psychology. Additional program admission requirements exist for the Athletic Training and Kinesiotherapy programs. Students are encouraged to contact advisors for specific details.
