Emphasis in Sports and High Performance Materials
This highly unique and innovative program is operated in conjunction with the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials. The education objective of the program is to create professional research scientists who have the specific multi-disciplinary advanced research skills to develop and test new materials that significantly improve athletic and human performance.
Program Examples
- In this podcast, Nadine Lippa and Dave Krzeminski, discuss their individual projects and the dynamics of the research group.
Jim Goetz, a doctoral student in the program, is focusing his research on developing highly breathable materials for clothing applications. His research is multidisciplinary with a focus in both polymer science and human performance and recreation. In the polymer science department he is working on the development and study of new polymer materials that are waterproof and water breathable. In the human performance department his study focuses on determining the temperatures inside, outside and within a worn garment during exercise. By gaining a full knowledge of the chemistry and application of breathable materials, he aims to improve current breathable sports clothing.
