HPR Scholarships

Scholarships

The School of Human Performance and Recreation offers several endowed scholarships. Requirements vary across scholarships including, but not limited to, area of study, GPA, demonstration of leadership and/or financial need.

Applications are available for download from this site or can be picked up at the HPR Student Success Center in HPR 101.

Deadline: All application materials MUST be submitted NO LATER than March 21, 2014 at 5 p.m.

All HPR Majors

Coach Willis Terry Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students in the School of Human Performance and Recreation. This scholarship shall be awarded to a student in the School of Human Performance and Recreation in the College of Health who has a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Preference will be given to individuals who are not eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant but who need assistance in affording college costs.

Athletic Training

"BIG Dave" Dave Freeman Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a junior or senior majoring in athletic training. To be considered for the scholarship, the student must write a 500-word essay describing financial hardship and need for the award.

Physical Education

Berma F. & Willie H. Carter Physical Education Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship that will be awarded to a junior or senior majoring in human performance with an emphasis in physical education K-12 teacher licensure in the School of Human Performance and Recreation with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  First preference is given to a student from the following counties in the Florida Panhandle (no preferential order):  Escambia, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Bay, Calhoun, Jackson, Gulf, Franklin, Liberty, Wakulla, Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, Santa Rose or Washington counties.  Second preference is given to a student from Alabama.  If no student from these areas meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student.

Quay Webb Camp Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a female student majoring in physical education K-12 in the School of Human Performance and Recreation.  The recipient must be a resident of Mississippi with preference given to a former high school athlete.  Each recipient shall be selected by the Director of the School of Human Performance and Recreation in accordance with the criteria as described herein, contingent upon review and approval of the student's eligibility.

Sport Coaching Education

D.C. Leech Scholarship (Sport Coaching)

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to capable and deserving students in athletic administration and coaching* with financial need.

*One student from each major will be selected to receive this award.

Ray and Marilyn Thompson Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a student majoring in sport coaching.

Reed Green Scholarship (Sport Coaching Education)

The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student majoring in sport management or sport coaching education.  If no student majoring in sport management or sport coaching education meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student with a major in the School of Human Performance and Recreation.  Each recipient shall be selected by the School of Human Performance and Recreation.

D.C. Leech Scholarship (Sport Management)

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to capable and deserving students in athletic administration and coaching* with financial need.

*One student from each major will be selected to receive this award.

Reed Green (Sport Management)

The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student majoring in sport management or sport coaching education.  If no student majoring in sport management or sport coaching education meets the criteria, the scholarship will be awarded to another qualified student with a major in the School of Human Performance and Recreation.  Each recipient shall be selected by the School of Human Performance and Recreation.

Recreational Administration and Therapeutic Recreation

Dr. Charles Burchell Recreational Administration Scholarship

The purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a student majoring in recreation administration or recreation. If no qualified applicant is found, next preference may be given to a student athlete majoring in any teacher licensure degree program.

Lynn Purnell Hagan School of HPR Scholarships

The purpose of this fund is to award a scholarship to a female student majoring in recreation.
