About IDS

The mission of the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) is to positively affect the lives of Mississippi citizens with developmental and other disabilities and their families across the life span and to work toward increasing their independence, productivity and integration into their communities.

Core functions include providing interdisciplinary preservice preparation and continuing education of students, professionals and para-professionals; providing community services for individuals disabilities, their families, professionals, paraprofessionals, policy makers, students, and others; conducting research, evaluation and analysis of public policy in areas that affect individuals with disabilities and their families; and disseminating information.

IDS is part of a national network of 67 University Centers on Disabilities advancing policy and practice for and with individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families and communities. www.aucd.org
