The Institute for Disability Studies is working in collaboration with partner organizations to develop and implement a portable Personal Healthcare Record (PDHR) and Web-based resources for infants most at risk for long-term neurodevelopmental problems.

The PDHR contains medical records from participating providers including hospitals, physicians, diagnostic facilities and treatment centers.

Goals

Develop portable Personal Developmental Health Records (PDHR)

At the request of the patient and/or parents, a PDHR is generated from the system, hosted by Forrest General Hospital, and sent to the patient and/or parents who, in turn, shares it with healthcare providers as needed.

Facilitate interagency communication

Real-time access to health records is accomplished using Misys CONNECT, a custom, Web-based application that facilitates interoperability of disparate electronic medical record systems and is available to all participating healthcare providers.

Develop and maintain Web-based resources

Decision Support System resources hosted by Forrest General Hospital are available on the Internet and include clinical decision support for healthcare professionals working with preterm infants and interactive developmental surveillance tools to assist healthcare providers in making decisions.

Implement telemedicine technologies

Audio/video conferencing is available for bedside consultation and training of NICU staff using Polycom 7000 and Polycom PVX for pc for conferencing with remote locations.

Partner Organizations

Forrest General Hospital, Southern Mississippi Neonatology, Hattiesburg Clinic, and South Mississippi Rural Health Initiative.
