Families First Children's Center is operated by the Institute for Disability Studies, Mississippi's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service.

WELCOME

The Families First Children’s Center (FFCC) provides comprehensive developmental services in an educational setting and is operated by The Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) - Mississippi’s University Center for Excellence at The University of Southern Mississippi.  The FFCC operates under the umbrella of IDS and focuses on early childhood education and developmental services for children who are typically developing and children who have special needs.

The FFCC provides the following services:

  • Fully inclusive classrooms led by early childhood teachers with a strong background and experience in child development, child and family studies and early intervention

  • Highly trained professional staff, including early childhood professionals, a  speech-language pathologist, an occupational and physical therapist, a nutritionist, and a nurse practitioner that consult with classroom teachers to support full inclusion of all children

  • Early intervention services integrated into the daily routines and classroom activities

  • Access and referral to other IDS programs and services including Families First Resource Center, play therapy, parent enrichment activities, classes and support groups

  • On-site developmental screening and assessment

  • Developmentally appropriate learning activities in the context of supportive relationships

Children served – Ages 6 weeks to 4 years, both with and without special needs.


Hours –7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The center operates year-round except for days that are designated as Southern Miss holidays.
