FFRC staff recognizes parenting can be challenging and at times overwhelming. Our staff provides quality up-to-date individual and group parenting classes for teen and adult parents. The focus of the classes is on positive discipline, limit setting and consequences, importance of routines, healthy nutrition and positive self-esteem. Our staff also works with individuals on specific parenting needs. Our parenting programs are approved through the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS). Teenagers today deal with peer pressure and are faced with many challenges and obstacles. FFRC staff work with youth in both school and community settings. We provide a wide range of programs to include self respect, character education, bullying, anger management, conflict resolution, team building exercises, and stress management. FFRC staff also provide programs on abstinence utilizing the "Just Wait" curriculum through the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Anger Management Classes
Do you control your anger or does anger control you? FFRC staff assists children, teAugust 21, 2008er, techniques for managing and expressing anger, identifying methods for reducing stress as well as positive self-expression of feelings. Fatherhood Initiative
Fathers face unique challenges in the 21st century. FFRC staff provides community programs, seminars, and individual training for fathers and their children.
Lending Library
FFRC has a wide variety of educational books (for children and adults), educational games, toys, and CD-ROMs. All items are available for sign out for a two-week period.
Support Groups
FFRC staff provides support groups in the community. The Autism Spectrum Support Group is for families with children diagnosed with Asperger's or Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Special Kids Families Network is for families with children with any disability. Both groups meet monthly and childcare is provided.
All of our programs are free of charge to the community.
The Families First Resource Center (FFRC) is a project of the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi. FFRC is funded by the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Division of Family and Children Services (GR# 525D341). This is primarily accomplished through DFC's administration of funds authorized by Title IV-B Subpart 2 of the Social Security Act.
