  Goal   1: Advance and augment implementation of best practices for inclusive education and early intervention programs that result in optimal development and educational achievement of children and youth with disabilities and in improved graduation rates from high school and post secondary institutions.

  Objectives  
  • 1.0: Continue to adjunct interdisciplinary core courses, offer specialized seminars and field experiences in education and early intervention for academic departments at Southern Miss.
  • 2.0: Through community services and technical assistance, including the development of model community and university-based service programs, and direct client services, promote and enhance state and community capacity building for strengthening early intervention and school services in natural and inclusive environments for children and youth with disabilities and their families as well as post-secondary experiences for university students with disabilities.
  • 3.0: Develop and conduct 5 research or evaluation projects that are related to defining best practices in the areas of early intervention, inclusive school services and postsecondary training of students with disabilities
  • 4.0: Develop 10 products and disseminate information and research findings and best practices that contribute to education and early intervention practices within natural and inclusive settings to 5,000 stakeholders at national, state and local levels

  Objectives  
  • 1.0: Offer interdisciplinary specialized seminars and field experiences in health related programs and activities.
  • 2.0: Through community services and technical assistance, including the development of model community and university-based service programs, and direct client services, promote and enhance state and community capacity building for strengthening health promotion and health outcomes of PWD across the lifespan.
  • 3.0: Develop and conduct 4 research or evaluation projects that are related to defining best practices for health care promotion, health literacy, and access to care for PWD and their families.
  • 4.0: Develop 10 products and disseminate information and research findings and best practices that contribute to enhanced health literacy to 3,000 stakeholders at national, state and local levels
 
  Goal   3: Promote and increase homeownership, support community development, and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination for people with disabilities and their families.

  Objectives  
  • 1.0: Develop and coordinate efforts to maintain and expand practica and internship placements in housing and related service fields (including IDS community housing initiatives) for 15 students enrolled in related disciplines such as but not limited to social work, marketing and management, finance, business administration, psychology, etc. as well as provide 10 guest lectures in classes at USM over 5 years. CORE FUNCTION: Interdisciplinary Pre-service Preparation and Continuing Education
  • 2.0: Develop and provide housing and related services to people with disabilities and other members of the community which promote independence, productivity, community inclusion, and community participation through direct services to 1,500, technical assistance to 3,000, and training to 10,000 over a five-year period. CORE FUNCTION: Community Services including Training, Technical Assistance and/or Demonstration and Model Activities.
  • 3.0: Development and conduct three housing research or evaluation efforts that affect or could affect individuals with disabilities and their families over five years. CORE FUNCTION: Research
  • 4.0: Develop 10 housing products and disseminate housing and related information to at least 8000 policymakers, administrators, direct service providers, advocacy organizations, public and private businesses and industries, and people with disabilities and their families to increase awareness, knowledge and skills regarding housing needs and best practices. CORE FUNCTION: Information Dissemination
 
  Goal   4: Promote and enhance the preparedness and/or recovery of individuals with disabilities and their families, emergency and disaster personnel, community members and organizations who are affected by Presidential declared emergencies or disasters in the state.

  Objectives  
  • 1.0: Develop and coordinate practica and internship placements in emergency or disaster preparedness and recovery efforts for people with disabilities (including IDS Katrina Aid Today initiative) for 10 students enrolled in related disciplines such as but not limited to social work, special education, psychology, criminal justice, community health, nursing, etc. as well as provide 5 guest lectures in classes at USM over 5 years. CORE FUNCTION: Interdisciplinary Pre-service Preparation and Continuing Education
  • 2.0: Develop and provide emergency or disaster preparedness and recovery services to people with disabilities and their families, emergency and disaster personnel, community members and organizations through direct services to 250, technical assistance to 400, and training to 200 over a five-year period. CORE FUNCTION: Community Services including Training, Technical Assistance and/or Demonstration and Model Activities.
  • 3.0: Development and conduct three (3) emergency or disaster preparedness and recovery research or evaluation efforts that affect or could affect individuals with disabilities and their families over five (5) years. CORE FUNCTION: Research
  • 4.0: Develop 5 emergency or disaster preparedness and recovery products and disseminate them to at least 2,500 policymakers, administrators, direct service providers, advocacy organizations, public and private businesses and industries, and people with disabilities and their families to increase awareness, knowledge and skills regarding preparedness and recovery needs and best practices. CORE FUNCTION: Information Dissemination
