Providing Educational Opportunities for Students with Intellectual Disabilities

The Institute for Disabilities has received a minigrant award through Think College at the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Funding is provided by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities.  This minigrant has allowed for the coordination of a Mississippi planning council to explore postsecondary education opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities.

The Higher EDucation 4 All Planning Council is composed of individuals with intellectual disabilities, family members, professionals and advocates. A statewide needs assessment and other outreach activities will be completed to determine the need for postsecondary education initiatives for persons with intellectual disabilities.  Results of the needs assessment will serve as the foundation for planning by the council.  The council will also review current local, state and national resources including already existing programs in other states; review best practices in providing inclusive postsecondary education services and discuss program sustainability.

Higher EDucation 4 All, a project of the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, is through Think College at the Institute for Community Inclusion with  funding from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities.
