Project Homecoming


a project of the Mississippi Case Management Consortium, funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Homecoming Through Case Management serves victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Covington, Jefferson Davis, Marion and Walthall Counties, with a particular focus on individuals or family members with disabilities, and providing technical assistance for community service providers, including community volunteers.

Goal: To provide specialized case management services for families, particularly those who have a family member with a disability, currently living in FEMA subsidized housing or receiving continued FEMA assistance.

Utilizing Project Homecoming Through Case Management, The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) proposes to

  • continue to address the long-term recovery and permanent housing needs faced by families who were impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, with a particular focus on individuals or family members with disabilities. These families continue to live in travel trailers or mobile homes provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) almost three years after Hurricane Katrina,

  • provide technical assistance to community service providers and community volunteers who seek specialized assistance in their work with clients with disabilities.
