Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) has received its third Governor’s Community Project of Excellence Award. Governor Haley Barbour presented the Institute for Disability Studies’ Executive Director Royal Walker with the 2010 Best Homebuyer Assistance Award for the work of the HOYO program. IDS received awards in 2007 and 2002. Each year, IDS recognizes an agency and an individual serving as members of the IDS Housing Advisory Council. The recipients are recognized at the fall Council meeting and featured in the winter edition of the Housing View newsletter. Nominations are accepted from April 1 through June 30. Housing Initiatives
The Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) has long believed that people with disabilities have the right to live in their own home with their families and fully participate in their community.
Mississippi Home of Your Own - assists people with disabilities and their families in locating counseling, supports, and financial assistance that may allow them to purchase and maintain their own homes.
HOYO Delta Housing Initiative – provides a concentrated focus on the intense housing needs of individuals with disabilities living in the 21 counties of the Mississippi Delta in identifying and locating safe, affordable housing and community-based supports.
Shelter For All - assists homeless individuals with disabilities and their families in most Mississippi counties by locating needed resources and supports to help them access permanent housing and achieve self-sufficiency.
Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing (HPRP) is a program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and to help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.
Comprehensive Housing Counseling - A certified housing counseling agency, IDS provides education and counseling to consumers across the state.
Neighborhood Stabilization Program -The NSP was established for the purpose of stabilizing communities that have suffered from foreclosures and abandonment. Through the purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed and abandoned homes and residential properties, the goal of the program is to resell these homes to eligible buyers to become occupied and maintained, contributing to the community.
Technical Assistance and Training - reaches out to many factions in the community—realtors, lenders, advocacy groups, local, state, and governmental entities and the general public—to make sure individuals with disabilities and their families can purchase a home or find permanent housing depending on their needs.
Project BridgeARCHIVED – a systems change project focused on removing the barriers that prevent Medicaid-eligible individuals with disabilities from finding accessible, affordable housing and long term care services in their communities.
Mississippi Fair Housing Initiative Program (M-FHIP)ARCHIVED - works to ensure equal opportunities in housing for all people and to increase home ownership through education and outreach that affirmatively further fair housing.
