Comprehensive Housing Counseling

The process of becoming a home owner can be overwhelming to first-time home buyers. The Institute  for Disability Studies (IDS) provides pre-purchase counseling to potential home buyers, renter education to renters, and post-purchase counseling to home owners across the state. As part of the counseling, credit action plans are developed for individuals who need to resolve their barriers to housing before becoming home owners.

IDS provides counseling to individuals with disabilities and families who have family members with disabilities living in their home. IDS provides telephone or face-to-face housing counseling in different areas of the state via

  • One-on-one pre-purchase homebuyer counseling
  • Section 8 home ownership voucher counseling
  • Group setting homebuyer education
  • One-on-one or group renter education

Comprehensive Housing Counseling is funded through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and a sub-recipient grant awarded by the Mississippi Home Corporation via support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Freddie Mac, and USDA Rural Housing.
