Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) Disability Initiatives

Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) Disability Initiatives offer an “Affordable Housing Program” (AHP) designed to assist in the development of affordable housing for low-to-moderate income households.  The grant funds are available in the entitlement cities of Hattiesburg, Jackson, Biloxi, Gulfport, Moss Point, and Pascagoula and other Hurricane Katrina affected areas and rural communities.

The FHLB housing initiatives help member institutions develop affordable owner-occupied housing for very low to moderate income families and individuals. Funds must be used to benefit households with incomes at or below 80% of the median income for the area.

AHP funds may be used to:
  • Pay closing cost or down payment
  • Buy down principal amounts
  • Assist with rehabilitation cost

Michael F, a Hurricane Katrina evacuee, has been displaced for over three years. He did not expect to get this much home in such a good neighborhood for the price he paid and was grateful for the assistance to help overcome the down payment and closing cost barriers to his owning a home. He received a $16,000 grant from FHLB with BankPlus as the member bank partner.
