HOME Investment Partnership Program for the City of Jackson

The HOME Investment Partnership program is a partnership between the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) and the City of Jackson Department of Planning and Development, Office of Housing and Community Development, Development Assistance Division, to assist individuals with disabilities or families who have members with disabilities living in their home to achieve permanent home ownership within the city limits of Jackson. Financial assistance for qualified applicants can be up to $15,000 per household. Established in 2002, the partnership is a localized model of the statewide Mississippi Home of Your Own Program established by IDS in 1997 to make home ownership a reality for persons with disabilities. To date, 62 families have been assisted through this partnership in becoming Jackson Homeowners.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant or a household member must have a disability recognized under the ADA.
• The applicant must be a Mississippi resident who is a first-time, low-income home buyer within the city limits of Jackson.
• The applicant must be approved by a participating lender and be able to make mortgage payments after expenses.
• The applicant must have good credit and some savings for home ownership.

• Information and referral
• Pre-purchase home buyer education and credit counseling
• Person-centered planning (interagency collaboration)
• Research available options for funding sources for down payments and closing costs, home modifications, reserves, etc.
• Assistance in locating appropriate mortgage, home selection, inspection, and appraisal
• Individual counseling through the home buying process
• Follow-up
