IDS core functions include preservice training, community service activities community training, technical assistance, and direct services, and dissemination. IDS core functions transcend five program areas that constitute the nucleus of IDS activities across the age spans of early childhood, middle childhood and adolescence, adulthood, and geriatrics. Program areas include individual and family supports, prevention and health care, policy development for community services, community capacity building for an interagency system of culturally competent and consumer-driven services and supports, and educational improvement.
These program areas were developed as a collaborative effort with the IDS consumer Advisory Council in response to national, regional, state, and local community needs for training; community service activities; and dissemination of information. Identified program areas address the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities who are traditionally unserved or underserved.
IDS-funded projects may be specific to one or more core functions and one or more life span stages. IDS core functions and programs affect individuals and families across all regions of the state. |
