Professional Learning Community |
A Professional Learning Community (PLC) is a group of early childhood educators who come together to share and collaborate with each other in order to increase the developmental and educational outcomes for young children (Adams, 2009; Sargent & Hannum, 2009). Research has shown that participation in PLCs has resulted in increased knowledge of early childhood educators’ and improved outcomes for children (Berry, Johnson, & Montgomery, 2005; Hollins, McIntyre, Debose, Hollins, & Towner, 2004). |
| Additionally, early childhood educators who participated in PLCs reported professional development needs were met through meaningful conversations (Berry et al., 2005; Bolam, McMahon, Stoll, Thomas, & Wallace, 2005). This year, Project PREPARE staff members are excited to offer PLCs to early childhood teachers and directors across the state of Mississippi. The PLCs are designed to meet the needs of teachers while increasing developmental and educational needs of ALL children. Teachers who participate in PLCs will spend time discussing and collaborating on a variety of topics, sharing ideas, and completing activities relevant to the classroom. A Project PREPARE staff member will work closely with participants of the PLCs through on-site technical assistance and mentoring. Early childhood educators who participate in the PLCs will receive five child care contact hours approved by the Mississippi State Department of Health for each PLC attended. To sign-up for this exciting opportunity, please call 1.888.671.0051 (voice or TTY) or 601.331.7369. Back to top |
