Welcome to the first issue of IDS Youth Notes. This is a youth e-newsletter for high school and college age youth with disabilities. Thank you for providing us with the topics of special interest to you. IDS Youth Notes will include information on education, career and job opportunities, recreational activities, health information and much, much more. 1. Competition Award
The By Kids For Kids Youth Empowerment Company and DoSomething.org announce the Advertise Your Cause Media Challenge, which encourages young people to discover what cause matters most to them and then “Do Something” to propel their cause into the public eye. The competition will reward the cleverest and powerful new Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign idea that will also have the broadest impact. The maximum award is $10,000 with national media exposure for the winning PSA. Eligibility requirements include: U.S. residents ages 5 to 19 and not graduated from high school at the time of competition. The deadline is June 30, 2008. To learn more information, please visit

2. Spoken Text
SpokenText.net allows you to create MP3 audio files from a variety of text-based sources. Everyone that becomes a member will get a personal podcast URL so you can download your recordings to iTunes or directly to your iPod. So what does this mean? This resource allows you to share your recordings with others in a voice format on your website or blog. Also, it can be help you with your studying. For example, you can save your notes as an audio file and then listen to them on your iPod. And best of all it is COMPLETELY FREE! 3. TRIAD Resource Library
The Training, Resources and Information for the Advancement of Degrees (TRIAD) project has an onsite educational resource library for youths with disabilities. Resources are available to keep or check out in print, video and audio formats. Information is available on a variety of topics such as study habits, career options, college life, housing, money management, and much, much more. 4. Technology Learning Center
The Technology Learning Center (TLC) is a community based organization dedicated to providing technology resources to youth and families. TLC has a lending program for assistive technology to help individuals with a disability access a computer such as adaptive mouse, keyboard, and touch screens. TLC also lends adaptive equipment for recreational enjoyment such as beach wheelchairs, all terrain wheelchairs, fishing and tennis equipment.
